The Lifelong Learning Unit (LLU)

Paula Lee
Executive Director, The Lifelong Learning Unit

In fulfilling its commitment to develop the human capital of the OECS and wider Caribbean region, the Lifelong Learning Unit, The UWI FIC was established in August 2021. Through the Lifelong Learning Unit, a suite of professional development courses is offered. Participants engage in online studies via interactive features, knowledgeable, and engaging facilitators. Additionally, the Lifelong Learning Unit undertakes sponsored research, and consultancy services; to develop knowledge-based solutions and support the transformation and growth of businesses across diverse industries and sectors.

Skilled workers, to a large degree will drive the jobs of the future. Professional development short courses are offered to support and develop a participant’s ability to gain skills, deliver knowledge-based solutions and earn credentials. Successful participants will be awarded a Certificate of Proficiency upon completion of each course.

As the small states within the OECS and other larger developing countries reposition themselves to compete effectively in global markets, their success will be largely dependent on the knowledge-economy. In order to advance their careers and create new economic pathways for their families and communities, individuals need to be certified at the highest level of international competitiveness.

The Harvard Credential of Readiness programme also known as Harvard CORe is one of our flagship offerings. It is a combination of three courses to include Business Analytics, Economics for Managers, and Financial Accounting. The programme is offered entirely online. Participants gain first-hand knowledge of how business professionals and entrepreneurs develop problem-solving skills and compete in the global market. Upon successful completion of the Harvard CORe programme, students will earn the Credential of Readiness from Harvard Business School and The University of the West Indies, Five Islands Campus.

Undeniably, as more people participate in the lifelong learning experience, the evolving needs of nationals within the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States and wider region will be served.
